Nagoya Castle Cherry Blossom Festival (Late March thru Early April)
As the name suggests, this event takes place on the grounds around Nagoya Castle which ios home to over 1600 cherry trees (sorry, there's no cherries). he trees are of a number of varieties that tend to bloom one after the other thus extending the ever-popular cherry-blossom-viewing season. One of the few locations that is illuminated at night makes this a perfect spot for night viewing.
Atsuta Matsuri (5 June)
One of the biggest and most notable shrine festivals in the city of Nagoya. This event includes performances, parades and fireworks.
Nagoya Port Marine Day Festival (16 July)
Held on "Umi no hi" (Marine Day) which faklls on the 3RD Monday of July, this event offers a variety of events to celebrate the city's historic link with the sea, concluding with in a spectacular fireworks display at dusk.
Nagoya Fireworks Festival (4 August)
Held on the first Saturday in August, over 55,000 people turn up annually for this over-the-top fireworks display. The banks of the Yada River provide a great vantage point.
Nagoya Castle Summer Festival (Early August)
Held on the castle grounds and features Hoh Theatre as well as the usual food and game booths. There's also a museum of Edo Period artifacts.
Maruhachi Day (8 August)
Eight (8) is the official number assigned to Nagoya City and the kanji for 8 is incorporated into the city's official seal. The Festival is always held on the 8th day of the 8th month. Celebrations include a variety of shows in locations around the city, with most of the major happenings taking place at Hisaya-Odori Park.
Nippon Domannaka Festival (Fri-Sat-Sun in Late August)
The streets of Nagoya become a parade ground for dancers and performers during this new but highly promising festival of happiness.
Nagoya Matsuri Festival (13 - 14 October)
This annual event celebrating the city and its heritage offers a packed program of activities, from a spectacular parade to colourful cultural performances.
Osu Daido-chonin Festival (12 - 14 October)
Taking place mainly around Osu-kannon temple, this festival is known for the wide variety of street performers it attracts.
