Flying home this year with United Airlines?

Heading back to the US or Canada this year will be more inconvenient for those who fly United. In October of 2008 the airline deemed Nagoya to be an inefficient, money-losing route and consequently canceled the daily flight between Centrair and San Francisco.

For expats and business people this means flying out of Narita or Kansai with a domestic flight in between or a couple of train rides. What happened to the improved access to international markets that was supposed to happen with the opening of Centrair? One can only suppose that with the economy in the tank and Aichi home to the auto industry that is currently in turmoil, United figured that their flight to San Francisco was going to be a money loser for a long time coming.

Unfortunately for the teachers and other non-business people it will mean a more expensive, less convenient way to get home this year.

If you are unhappy about this turn of events, why not send a message to United by contacting them at their website, www.united.com and suggest what many people are thinking? - How about 1-2 flights a week between Nagoya and San Francisco?

Surely the demand by foreigners in the area and Japanese travelers should be sufficient to fill a plane up twice a week.
